Introduction ENUM Discoverer
On Thursday 14 January SIDN and ISOC.nl (the Dutch chapter of the Internet Society) are unveiling ENUM Discoverer to the public. ENUM Discoverer is a free, open-source application for Android systems, which utilises the power of ENUM to enhance the potential of telephone address books. The new software was developed jointly by Catalyst (NZ), SIDN and ISOC.nl.
‘ENUM Discoverer is an Android application that demonstrates just how much potential ENUM has,' explains Michiel Leenaars, CEO of ISOC.nl. ‘It makes use of the powerful discovery mechanism that underpins ENUM: a number that you can use to obtain the information you want.'
ENUM Discoverer runs in the background on your phone and lets you know whenever someone in your address book publishes new information about themselves. ‘Why go to the trouble of manually checking all your contacts' Twitter accounts, e-mail addresses and social networking pages for updates, when you can get ENUM Discoverer to do it for you?' asks Michiel Henneke, SIDN's Marketing Manager.
The application also offers a number of professional features that will be of interest mainly to business people and more privacy-conscious internet users. One such feature is automatic retrieval of public encryption keys. Encryption key retrieval enables you to make sure that no one can ever read your messages or listen in on your conversations. It also opens the way for the creation of identity management applications.
